Khanmigo for Student Engagement with AI
Khanmigo was launched in March, 2023, with resources for both students and teachers. It is built on the most recent version of ChatGPT, but also the vast resources of Khan Academy: A non-profit seeking "to provide a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere", Khan Academy is fully available in 14 languages and partially available in 28 other languages, and boasts more than 10,000 short video lessons covering a vast range of subjects beginning with pre-K and going through some college-level math and science. An introduction to the concept of Khanmigo is available in a TED talk Sal Khan gave in March 2023 and he gave an update with Q&A in November, 2023. A recent article in Fast Company indicates that, just one year after launch, there are about 65,000 students in 53 school districts using Khanmigo--and they expect to expand to 500,000 to 1 million students for Fall, 2024.
Compliance with privacy expectations and requirements, especially with respect to student data, is a requirement of any solution to be used with students; Khan Academy has strong Privacy Policy, which includes a process for creating school accounts consistent with school privacy requirements, and a long history of working with schools to ensure compliance with school, State, and Federal privacy requirements.
